Taking Flight with EPL Skylift at the Royal Liver Building

Lavendon Access Services’ Vehicle Mount Division, EPL Skylift, has recently supplied Chester-based company Wasp Ltd, with its largest truck mounted boom, a 72 metre model, for a job at the Royal Liver Building on the banks of the River Mersey in Liverpool.

Needing to access the highest windows of the iconic building, EPL Skylift recommended the T72B truck mount to the window installation and maintenance specialists in order to carry out its planned maintenance programme and service checks for any damage to the Royal Liver Building’s windows. Although the Royal Liver Building stands at 90 metres, the windows are all below this level, and easily accessible from the 72 metres of  working height that the T72B provides.

The work had to be carried out at varying distances from the Liver Building due to surrounding obstructions such as signs, lamp posts and statues; and with 27.7 metres of outreach, the T72B easily allowed the required ‘up and over’ access to carry out work. The 2.20x1.25 metre platform also provided ample space for Wasp’s two trained operators, and of course the tools they required for their maintenance and service checks.

Built in 1911, the Royal Liver Building is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the city of Liverpool, and is home to the two fabled Liver Birds that watch over the city and the sea. Legend has it that were these two birds to fly away, then the city would cease to exist.
